General Community News

AppArmor vulnerability fixes available

Luci Stanescu alerts us to vulnerabilities discovered in AppArmor code discovered by Qualys. We’re told they’re referred to as ‘CrackArmor’ and haven’t had CVEs assigned to them yet. Luci advises us they need unprivileged local user access and effects range from denial of service, kernel memory leaks, local privilege escalation to root, and more. We’re given details that include: Launchpad Bug IDs, packages impacted including fixed versions to look for, how to check if we’re impacted, and more. Luci thanks Qualys for their excellent reporting and engagement with the Canonical Kernel & Security teams.

Meeting Reports

Rocks Public Journal; 2026-03-11

The Ubuntu 26.04 base container image is now a Rock! The UX remains the same, but you’ll now find more useful things in it, like extended OCI annotations and a ready-to-be-used Pebble binary. Try it at docker pull public.ecr.aws/ubuntu/ubuntu:resolute. While the ubuntu-26.04 chisel-release is getting ready for a stable release, note that we’ve introduced the slice definitions format v3 in it, which means this release will be supported by Chisel >=v1.4.0. Find more info about the available formats in the Chisel docs.

What Say You

Meet the Members: Leó Kolbeinsson

"… I have always been interested in Operating Systems and played around a bit with many Linux distros. Stumbled onto the Ubuntu ISO test tracking website and tried Ubuntu and many of the flavors. Lubuntu appealed to me and before I knew it became a regular tester.

My main contributions have been ISO testing and bug reporting. Have also tried to be available for any extra testing the developers might have requested. I was also a member of the Lubuntu Council for one year." - Leó Kolbeinsson
